About Us
My name is Cathy Bernardino Bailey and I am a self-taught collage artist located in Cincinnati, OH. I create art from upcycled magazine paper and other random paper such as flyers, mail and cards. I continually explore using these papers to collage portraits that are full of texture, vibrant colors and quirky images that make you smile, reminisce on your childhood, and tap fond memories of culture and traditions, particularly those of African American families. I’m in awe every day of the strength of women, the many hats we wear, and our relentless ability to overcome obstacles. And while we become tired along our path, we push to lean forward and thrive in our work and experiences. Many of my art pieces are portraits or groups of women. The layers of paper in my collage work creates textures that represent strength, seasons, boldness, light, positivity and change. The patchwork of the hair of the women represents the path of our lives, the ups, the downs, the good the bad, but in a playful way because most days, laughter is our best and only medicine. The hair of some pieces have a theme depicted in the choice of words or images, others do not. Most have a small image of something representing Weirton WV or Cincinnati OH as an extension of me and my love for both cities that shaped my life. I appreciate you stopping by my online store. I hope you like my art and choose to purchase a piece or two!
