Avenue A
Avenue A
“Avenue A”
2024, art print from original.
This piece captures fond memories at Mama Pete (grandmother) and Mama Mama’s (great-grandmother) house in Weirton, WV. We spent so much time there, learning, talking, growing. I think often of their chairs, worn, seasoned, oversized, but a chance for me to steal a quick seat from time to time. They did everything from those chairs - talking to us, eating from a tv tray, relaxing, laughing, smoking, crocheting, putting green stamps in books, doing our hair, drinking Coca-Cola, napping, watching sitcoms and soap operas! All of it! Of all the things I think of them and remember, it’s their chairs that are so vivid to me. That’s a little odd to me but also comforting. You would think this piece was about the flowers but it’s the chair. I was struggling to name this piece until my cousin made me see it and my sister agreed. This one is called ‘Avenue A’ named after the street they lived on and the many memories and moments that shaped us!
Fun fact: check out the side of the chair, highlighting some of their favorite soap operas and sitcoms.
Printed on Canon luster photo paper.
