About the Art:

The Church Lady captures a cherished memory from my childhood. Known for her generous spirit and impeccable fashion sense, she added a touch of brightness to every church service.  It wasn’t always the same lady, but a helpful lady at times in Sunday school, during service, or helping with the youth choir. At times she had to ‘get with’ some kids, but she always seemed nice and helpful to me as I reflect on it now.  

My favorite elements of this piece include her hair, earrings, and the vibrant background, which is made entirely of magazine paper - a process that involved several weeks and numerous magazines to collect the perfect purple pages.

Fun Fact: All the pieces of paper in this piece are cut, when many of my art pieces are a combination of me tearing and cutting paper.
