About the art:

This piece was an early one for me, anxious to work with colors and combine acrylic paint as a background. This is a combination of cutting and tearing paper.  Cutting is easier, tearing takes time to tear for a particular effect:  tear up to remove white edges, tear down to show white edges, hold paper in the middle to help tear at an angle, etc.  This piece was inspired by my beloved sorority (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc)

Fun facts/info: The pearls are layered circles.  There are 16 different shades of red in the hat. I often use words from a page/ article to create ‘texture’ in hair.
